The process of creating a site begins with setting the task, filling out the brief and preparing the TOR. Brief is not a complex document in which the customer answers questions related to the planned site. This brief and will be the basis for understanding the big picture of what needs to be realized.
For a small site brief will be quite enough to start work, but if it is supposed to be more or less complex project, it is necessary to draw up another document – the terms of reference.
Terms of Reference – a document in which details will be described the necessary functions and features of the site being developed. The terms of reference contains detailed information about the site being developed: purpose, tasks to be solved, intended audience, structure of materials, what templates are needed for each type of pages (main, text, photo album, product catalog, etc.), description of the project functionality, requirements to it, description of content, etc.
Only after the customer approves the terms of reference, you can prepare an estimate, because only at this point there is a clear understanding of what the functionality will be, whether you need an individual design or will use a template solution, who will be engaged in the preparation and placement of content, etc.
Prototyping site involves working out options for possible placement of elements on each of the proposed pages. As a result, variants of possible use of different types of information blocks are selected, the location of the menu (vertical, horizontal, main, additional) is chosen, etc.
Content management system is chosen based on the tasks that are set before the site. It can be a simple CMS for simple sites or a complex system for an online store. Perhaps the task will be individual and solve it will have to write the code of the site from scratch, using a framework – for example, YII or Laravel.
But even when using ready-made content management systems (CMS) may need to develop its own functionality to solve certain problems of the customer. Such functionality has to be developed independently and this also affects the cost of work.
Any site needs content – articles, photos, etc. Of course, the customer can already independently write the necessary articles and find images, but practice shows that in reality it causes great difficulty, as not everyone has the skills to write articles and know where to find suitable images, which, moreover, are licensed for free use.
The site must have an address and somewhere to be placed. The address of the site is registered on specialized services – domain name registrars. But before you register the name of the site, it must be picked up. Often the desired name is already busy and then have to show a lot of imagination to pick up a domain name, which will maximally correspond to the desired. Domain name and hosting is paid to the registrar and is carried out once a year (annually).
This option is not mandatory but is reasonable. The site also needs constant supervision. It is necessary to periodically make backups, it is necessary to timely update the core and CMS components and a number of works that serve the stable operation of the site. Also, this service may include consulting the owner of the site, updating or adding content to the site, organizing advertising campaigns AdWords and providing analytics reports.
